The above photo is of Mandy's grandfather Bernard Groves in his Morris car with a Mr Simmonds. Bernard was a taxi driver and had the honour of taking the Queen and Princesses to Osborne House during a Cowes Week in the 1930's.
 

Frederick Frank Stevens was born in November 1884 in Trowbridge, Wilts, the son of a locally born John Stevens and his wife Mary Ann from Frome. He was baptised on 11 January 1885 at Staverton, when the family was living at Marsh on the outskirts of Trowbridge.

In the 1891 census the family is shown living at 18 Union Street, Trowbridge, with 6 year old Frederick now being a scholar along with his four siblings. His 36 year old father John was listed as a brewers cellarman and his 34 year old mother Mary an upholsterer.

By the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to 25 Mount Pleasant, Trowbridge, with 16 year old Frederick now working as a brushmaker. His 44 year old mother Mary, now a widow, was a machinist working at home, and his 14 year old sister Lilian working in a haberdashery shop.

To date, Frederick's whereabouts at the time of the 1911 census have yet to be positively identified, but his 54 year old widowed mother was now living in Southsea, working as an upholstery sewing machinist at home.

Frederick married Jessie Burdette Hall in 1914 at the Register Office in Newport, IOW. Nothing more is known about the couple or Fredeick's photographic career until 1933 when they were registered living at Mizpah, 5 Westhill Road, Cowes; this being the studio address on the above photo. Sadly, Jessie died in early 1939 at the age of 58 and was buried in Ryde Cemetery. Also interred in the same plot was Louisa Hall who had died at the age of 91 in 1932, assumed to be Jessie's mother.

After Jessie died, Frederick moved to Little Dolcoppice, Whitwell, where he was recorded in the 1939 Register as living alone and working as a photographer. He was still living there alone in 1947, but it is not known if he continued working as a photographer.

Frederick's death has not been positively identified to date. He didn't die or buried on the IOW, so it's likely he returned to the mainland.
